How we approach an addition

An addition has to look like it was always there. That means matching rooflines, siding, trim and brick, and it means planning the structural and mechanical work before a single wall comes down.

We start with how you actually use the house today and what is missing. From there we design the addition, produce complete licensed plans and specifications, pull the permits, and build it, all with the same team.

Because we are also licensed for electrical and plumbing work, the trades that usually cause delays on an addition are coordinated in-house rather than subcontracted out and waited on.

It has to match

Rooflines, brick, siding and trim are detailed to the existing house so the addition does not read as an add-on.

Structure planned first

Framing, footings and load paths are engineered before demolition begins, which is what keeps an addition on schedule.

Mechanicals in-house

TrendMark holds its own NC electrical and plumbing licences, so the trades that usually cause delays are ours to coordinate.

Living through it

Site protection, dust control and access are planned around the fact that you still need to use the rest of the house.

What areas do you serve?

TrendMark works throughout the Triangle: Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Chapel Hill, the RTP area and Wake County generally. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 5712, Cary, NC 27518. If you are near the edge of that area, call and ask, as it usually comes down to the size of the project rather than the postcode.

What licences does TrendMark hold?

TrendMark is a NC General Contractor, a NC Electrical Contractor, a NC Plumbing Contractor and a NC Licensed Home Inspector. Wallace Baker also holds the state’s highest level of certification as an inspector in building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire code. That combination is unusual, and it means the trades that normally cause delays are ours to schedule.

What does design-build actually mean for me?

It means one contract and one team for the design, the permits and the construction. You are not paying an architect to draw something, then hoping a builder can deliver it for the number you had in mind. We design to your goals and your budget together, produce complete licensed plans and specifications, and then build what those plans show.

Can I stay in the house while you work?

Most of our clients do. We plan the sequence, the site protection and the access around that from the start, so the work is contained to the areas being remodeled. Clients regularly comment on how neat and tidy the crews keep the house, and that is deliberate rather than luck.
